A prize wheel for events and streams
Prize wheels bring energy to trade shows, school fundraisers, shops and live streams. This one has a grand prize, runners-up, a bonus spin and a mystery envelope, each with equal odds until you change the weights.
Edit the prizes to match what you actually have. A real prize wheel needs real stock: if you list a gift card, you must be able to give it.
Running it fairly
Give grand prizes a low weight and small prizes a high weight so the budget lasts. State the odds if the rules of your event or region require it. For online giveaways, record your screen as proof, and check local rules about contests and promotions.
Setting the odds for a prize wheel
Real prize wheels do not give every prize equal odds. A common setup has one large prize with a small chance, a few mid-sized prizes and many small ones. In the entries panel, open Weights and colors and set larger weights for the prizes you want to come up most often.
Write the odds on a sign near the wheel if your event requires it, and keep stock for the most common prizes. Test your weights with a dozen spins before the event.
Designing a prize wheel that works for your budget
The cost of a prize wheel is the average value of what it gives away. If you give out prizes worth 20, 5, 2 and 0 with chances of 5%, 20%, 45% and 30%, the average cost per spin is 0.05 times 20 plus 0.2 times 5 plus 0.45 times 2, which is about 2.90. Multiply by the number of spins you expect to find your budget.
Use weights to set those chances. Give grand prizes a low weight and small prizes a high weight, then test with fifty spins to see the pattern.
Setting up for trade shows and shops
Place the wheel at eye level and attract visitors with a clear sign such as "Spin to win." Collect contact details only if you are open about why, and follow privacy rules in your area. Keep all prizes in stock before you start, and honor every result. Customers remember being surprised, and they remember being let down.
For a screen at a booth, use fullscreen mode and turn the sound on. The sound is part of the draw.
Using the wheel in schools and at events
At a school fair or a class celebration, a wheel with small rewards such as stickers, a free homework pass or a front-of-line pass keeps lines moving. Make every spin free, as a reward for taking part or for good behavior. Charging people for a spin, or letting them pay to win a prize, is regulated in many places and is not what this wheel is for.
Making the experience feel fair
Tell people how the wheel works. Post the prize list and the chances if you are required to or if it builds trust. Avoid "try again" slices unless your local law allows them. Let a participant press the Spin button themselves, because people like to feel in control of the moment.
