How to use the Nuzlocke rules wheel

  1. 1

Spin before beginning a new Pokémon save file to apply your custom Nuzlocke ruleset.

  2. 2

Adhere strictly to all spun modifiers throughout the entire run until the Champion is defeated.

Ways to use this wheel

  • Progressive Difficulty: Spin a new modifier onto your ruleset after winning each gym badge.
  • Community Streamer Challenge: Let viewers trigger a modifier wheel spin during gym battles.

Extra rules for a Nuzlocke run

A standard Nuzlocke already has two rules: catch only the first Pokémon in each area, and release any that faint. This wheel adds optional extra constraints such as level caps, item bans and monotype restrictions for people who want more difficulty.

Decide how many extra rules you want before you start, and spin once for each. Write them down so you can stick to them on a long run. Streamers often let chat decide whether to accept a spin.

Mixing the wheels

Combine it with the type wheel for a monotype challenge and the random Pokémon generator for a team. Remove any rule that does not apply to the game you are playing.

What can I use this wheel for?

People use it for challenge runs, loadouts and stream nights. Popular ideas include Progressive Difficulty and Community Streamer Challenge. For example, Progressive Difficulty: spin a new modifier onto your ruleset after winning each gym badge.

Is this wheel really random?

Yes. Nothing about it is rigged: the winner is chosen by your browser's secure random number generator, so a list of 10 gives each entry a 10% chance until you change the weights. How our randomness works has the full explanation.

Can I stop the same result coming up twice?
