How to use the video game genre wheel

  1. 1

Spin the wheel to select a primary gameplay genre.

  2. 2

Open your library, filter by that tag, and launch an unplayed gem.

Ways to use this wheel

  • Backlog Buster: Spin once a month and complete one title from the spun genre before buying new games.
  • Steam Sale Budget Decider: Restrict your seasonal sale shopping spree strictly to the chosen genre.

Beating the backlog

A long library can be harder to choose from than an empty one. The wheel picks a genre, such as a roguelike, a cozy farming game or a Metroidvania, and then you choose a game from that smaller group. Two steps are much easier than one.

Pick a genre, then give yourself five minutes to choose a title and start playing. If you are still not in the mood after an hour, you can spin again. The goal is to play, not to find the perfect game.

Your own genres

Edit the slices to match the games you own. You can also add the specific titles in each genre as separate entries when you want the wheel to pick a game directly.
