Random Pokémon for challenges and team building

This generator picks from 24 well-known Pokémon, each shown with its type, and every one has the same chance of coming up. It is useful for Nuzlocke and randomizer challenges, for choosing a team when you cannot decide, for drawing something when you want a prompt, or for a quick game with kids.

To build a full team of six without repeats, spin and use Remove winner after each spin, or use the multiple winners option in Settings to pick six at once. If you want a specific region or type, delete the slices you do not want, or try the type wheel and starter wheel for narrower picks.

Fair rules for a randomized run

Decide before you start whether a spin is final or whether you may re-roll once. In a competition, one person should spin on camera and everyone should agree on the list first. The list is a small selection, not every Pokémon, and you can edit it freely.

Ways to use a random Pokémon in your game

A random Pokémon gives you a reason to try creatures you would never pick. It is popular for Nuzlocke and randomizer runs, for challenge matches among friends, and for drawing or writing prompts. Spin once for a single partner, or six times with Remove winner after each spin to build a full team without duplicates.

Because the list includes each Pokémon’s typing, you can see at a glance whether your team is balanced. If you end up with four Fire types, re-spin one.

Building a balanced team

A balanced team covers several types and has both physical and special attackers. After spinning, check weaknesses. If your team is weak to Ground and Water, swap one member for something that resists them. Many players allow one free re-spin per team to avoid unplayable teams while keeping the spirit of the challenge.

You can also spin for roles: choose a lead, a sweeper, a tank and so on, then pick the random Pokémon that best fits each role.

Challenge ideas

Try a "draft" with friends: each person spins for three Pokémon, and you battle with those teams. Try a "no re-rolls" run where you must use whatever the wheel gives you. Try a type-themed run by combining this wheel with the type wheel. For young fans, spin for a Pokémon to draw and name.

Customizing the list

The wheel holds a selection of 24 well-known Pokémon. Add your favorites, or remove legendary and Mythical Pokémon if you want a more grounded run. Edit the entries for a single generation by deleting the others. Save your custom wheel under My wheels for the next challenge.
