How to use the periodic table element wheel
- 1
Spin the wheel to select an element.
- 2
Students state the element’s symbol, atomic mass, group, and practical everyday applications.
Ways to use this wheel
- Element Superhero Project: Students invent a superhero character with powers derived from the spun element.
- Bohr Model Practice: Draw the electron configuration and shell rings for the selected element.
Assigning an element to each student
The wheel lists common elements with their symbol and atomic number, such as hydrogen (H, 1) or carbon (C, 6). A spin gives every student an element to research with no duplicates when Remove winner after each spin is on.
Ask for the discovery story, the element’s uses, its group on the table and a fun fact. Students can present on one slide or make a poster.
Quiz and review
For a quick review, spin and ask for the symbol, the atomic number or the group. Add the elements your class has covered, and keep the list at around a dozen so students see repeats. For the full table, paste all 118 elements into the entries panel.
